Travelin' On

by Maggie Toussaint

There are rules about carry-on luggage on planes these days that cramp my style. In the past, I'd bring unsweetened tea from home to sip as I traveled. But there's that liquid rule now, so that's out. Iced tea in airports can be all kinds of weird. If you're particular about your tea, and I am, you are rarely satisfied with bottled/canned tea or fruit-flavored tea. If I ever run up on a terrorist, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind for ruining iced tea travel for me.

My carry-on bag is the most important part of any trip. It has snacks, books, a jacket, a computer, puzzles, my hat, a change of underclothes and socks, any medications I might be taking, reading glasses, my purse, and OTC stuff for headaches. With these essentials, I can survive most anything.

I laughed so hard that coffee almost spewed on my keyboard.

Thank you for a Monday laugh.

OH Maggie! I can just see you giving him 'what for!'
I was stopped once when my bag went through an x-ray machine, and the security guard drew out a small, green plastic squeaky hammer toy that my son (2 at the time) had put in there. He didn't say a word, just shook his head sadly, put it back and waved me on...lol.

MAGGIE--we always carry food, snacks--never leave home without something to eat. I used to carry water, because I have a great fear of no water--to drink. Now, I carry an empty bottle through security, and inside where the gates and food are, I fill my bottle from a water fountain.I thought this was an ingenious idea, but I saw person after person doing the same thing.I always have a windbreaker with a hood, so I can use it for rain. and I always carry a small pillow--can't live without my security pillow. Maggie, I agree. It's frustrating not being able to take your own drink. All of the tea you buy in bottles either has a ton of sugar or sweetenera and I don't want either. I love Celia's idea of taking the empty bottle to fill. Maybe you could take that and some of those iced tea bags that work in cold water!

I was getting to where I enjoyed flights more than driving. Not anymore.
