Book signings we have known

I'm gearing up to do my first local signing. I really don't enjoy these but a friend will be in town and she's going to sign, so it'll give me a chance to gossip with her if nothing else.

Those of you who have done signings -- what do you think is a good tip for the signer? Make eye contact, smile, etc., etc., but what else -- any giveaway to lure people in? Anything to do to make it more palatable?

And those who haven't signed but have attended them -- do you remember anyone in particular when you were at a signing?
